Accounts Payable Clerk Sharie Wimmer cherishes every moment with her three grandkids.
A couple of years ago, she spent 11 days in the hospital on a ventilator.
“I missed 11 days of my life and didn’t know whether I’d live or die. I thought I’d never see my grandbabies again,” she said. “When I finally did, they were as happy to see me as I was to see them. I think that really changed a lot in my life.”
She came to work for the city almost 16 years ago and plays the vital role of making sure people get paid.
Sharie processes payments to vendors and contractors and also ensures employees get paid on time.
“Payroll is a challenge for me right now because I’m still learning everything,” she said. “But I’d say probably payroll is my favorite part. I don’t know why, but it always has been.”
While those are her primary roles, she’s always stepped up when needed to answer phones or take utility payments.
“We have many hands,” Sharie said.
