Mike Haldeman keeps City Hall up and running.

For more than eight years, Mike has worked as a maintenance worker specifically focused on City Hall.

“I was concerned they wouldn’t hire me or interview me because I was turning 61” he said. “They said ‘Will you give us five years?’ and I said, ‘I’ll probably give you five years.’ They said, ‘Possibility of 10?’, and I said, ‘I’ll have to evaluate that as I go’.”

On the surface level of his job, Mike takes care of City Hall through replacing light bulbs, wiping down door handles, mowing the grass, and caring for the fountain out front. However, he said, there’s more to it than maintenance.

“It’s a job that requires people skills in a building full of lots of people,” he said. “Part of my job is public relations, not only with the people in the building, but with the people that come into the building … You just have to have good public relations in my job. It’s very important.”

When he isn’t working, Mike spends time with his family. He’s also been a pastor at First Assembly of God in Fulton for 31 years in mid-November.

Mike recently announced his retirement from the city. We will miss his friendly smile and great conversation. Mike leaves some big shoes to fill.
