Electric Supervisor Micah Harris started working in the division in 2002 as an apprentice. Over the years, he’s taken on more responsibilities and duties.
“I did the summer help (thing) for a few years while I was going to school. It got to where I enjoyed that work more than I did going back to school,” he said. “An opening came up, and Kevin Cunningham was still the supervisor. He said ‘if you want it, it’s yours.’ So, I started.”
As supervisor, Micah schedules jobs and works with contractors. For instance, when there’s construction going on and contractors need partial or full power turned on at a site, Micah talks with them and ensures the city crew completes any necessary work.
Even though it is similar work every day, Micah said, it’s always different.
“It’s not a job where you come in and sit down and do the same thing,” he said. “It’s a house here, a building there. It’s not the monotonous routine like a factory job or something like that. And it’s outdoors.”
Micah’s been married for 15 years. The two have a son who is about to turn 10 and a 6-year-old daughter.
“Right now, most of my free time deals with stuff. Summer was t-ball and baseball; my daughter does dance, and my son takes horse riding lessons, homework and that kind of stuff,” he said. “I’m 43 and right in the middle of dad life.”
